Great Android Apps For RC Helicopters

This article is a follow up for the iPhone apps item we did last week, for you Android users. The variety of apps is overwhelming and we bring before you the top rated applications for your perusal. Read on for more info:

RC-Heli-Pitch:

With this tool you can identify very easy and very exact the value of the pitch from a rc-heli in the following three different ways:

1. By using a yardstick.

2. By using the mobile camera.

3. By using the mobile sensors.

Process for 1. and 2.: You have to scale and type the rotor blade length (hole to end). Both blades has to show in the same direction. If you have 0 degrees pitch the blades have to be exact parallel. If you change pitch, the blades are moving apart. By using the gap between the blades you have the pitch value.

Process for 2.: By using the mobile camera it is enough to type a nearby blade length in the programpart ‘calculate pitch’. After selecting the camera icon, you have to make a photo from your blades of the helicopter (like the title picture). Then you have to move the lines upon the blades. The ends of the blades are less important. Important is, that the lines are upon the blades (parallel).

Process for 3.: You can fix you mobile at a blade by using an elastic strap and read the pitch from the display.

Heli-Headspeed:

Heli-Headspeed is a tachometer for your RC model helicopter.

Heli-Headspeed is a tachometer that measures the RPM of your RC model helicopter blades. For this purpose the blade sound is recorded and its frequency spectrum analyzed.

It works with electric and nitro model helicopters with two blades. In nitro mode the gear transmission ratio must be entered.

The app shows a small Quickstart guide upon first launch. Please read it!

The measurement process is simple: a ) select the expected RPM range and b) click the measure button.

RC-Heli-Gear-Ratio:

With the tool you can calculate the gear revolutions from a rc-heli (or rather the head speed). You have to describe the engine parameter and the gear from your helicopter.

Important gear parameters are revolutions per minute per volt (Kv), the engine voltage and the ESC value in percent.

The gear is defined with cog wheel positions at the shaft and the cogs from the cog wheel.

The program has presets for the helicopters:
AcrobatSE, GAUI Hurricane 425, GAUI X5, Align T-Rex 250SE, T-Rex 450, T-Rex 500, MSH Protos

Head Speed Tachometer:

Head Speed Tachometer is used to measure the headspeed of your r/c-helicopter.

The sound of the blades will be analyzed and the according headspeed will be calculated.

Using Settings you can choose between standard (rpm up to 4000) and micro sized (rpm up to 8000) helicopter and setup the number of blades between 2 and 5.

Before starting the measuring you have to set an estimated headspeed. You can expect most accurate measuring if set inside the range of +/- 500rpm to your real headspeed.

RCECalc:

RC Electric Calc v1.1 – A calculator for Radio Control (RC or R/C) electric powered model airplanes/helicopters using lithium-Polymer (LiPo) batteries. (v2 coming soon)

Excellent for use at the flying field.

You can calculate the following after the flight and battery recharge:

- Average Current Used.

- Average Discharge Rate (C-rate).

- Expected Flight Time from a particular battery.

- Power in Watts (from Volts & Amps).

- Static thrust of a propeller in pounds or kilograms.
